Grand Theft Auto IV: Xbox 360 Sales & XBL Statistics

Yesterday I posted the sales figures for Grand Theft Auto IV for the first week. Today I received the stats and figures on the Xbox 360 version and it’s interesting. The Xbox 360 version outsold the PS3 version by 60%. Xbox 360 console sales jumped 54% during GTA IV’s launch week retailers reported that 40 percent of those buying the game also bought a new Xbox 360 console. During the first week over 2.3 million gamers played the game on Xbox live and most logged in more than 4 hours per day. GTA IV is now the number one game played on the Xbox 360 and an impressive 12 million achievements equaling over 100 million points have been unlocked by gamers.

EA Announces Fight Night 4 Will Feature Mike Tyson

It’s been almost a decade since Mike Tyson has been featured in a videogame. Today, EA not only confirmed Fight Night 4 but it will have Mike Tyson in the game. Many questioned the franchise when EA Chicago was closed. The new Fight Night is being developed at EA’s Vancouver studios. Little is known right now but the engine will be overhauled and the game is being made for both the Xbox 360 and the PS3. We will have more on this title and it’s great that they are bringing another one out. As for Mike Tyson being in the game he was a great boxer in the early days and it sounds this will be the focus of his role in the game.

Stride Gum Declares Support to StopUweBoll.org

Anyone who likes movies and videogames knows the name Uwe Boll he has directed several movies based on videogames. He has earned several awards from rotten tomatoes not something to be proud of. He is known for his arrogance and he is ruining the genre of videogame movies. This is one of the strangest news articles I have ever posted but it’s 100 percent true!

Uwe Boll made a promise that if 1 million people signed the petition by clicking here. He would stop directing and making films based on any videogame. It seems the people at Stride Gum want to also see a stop to awful movies. Today they announced they would offer the first million signers a free coupon for a pack of gum. The free gum is not really the incentive here it is a chance for your voice to be heard. It’s also a chance to let people who love the videogame genre make decent films. It’s already too late for Postal or Far Cry but I thought it was rather interesting a major company would get involved to help stop Boll’s directing. The catch is simple the deadline is May 14th if there is 1 million signatures they will each get a downloadable coupon for a free pack of gum. Show your support and stop Uwe Boll from ruining any more movies please!

Grand Theft Auto IV: Breaks Several Sales Records

We knew Grand Theft Auto IV would be hot and have an impressive first week. Today, the figures are in the game sold 3.6 million units on opening day which adds up to $310 million in total sales. This smashes the old record and the game went on to sell 6 million during the first week or more than $500 million. It’s true the game was out on two consoles but the sales figures are impressive and GTA IV has set a new all-time entertainment record for the opening day and week.

Prototype Delayed Until 2009?

There are times when the rumors on the internet really are true and then most of the time the rumors are just that rumors. I wanted to clear up the news about Sierra and Radical Entertainment’s Prototype. The game has been pushed back to a 2009 release the news is the team wanted more time to make the game what they want to bring gamers. If you have followed the news on this title it sounds amazing and I hope they can pull it off. I think the move is a smart one and I hope the extra time will make it a killer title when released.

7-11 & Full Throttle Introduce Guitar Hero Slurpee & Contest

You might remember when 7-11 had those cool Halo 3 cups? Well, a new Slurpee flavor has been made to kick off this summer and Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. Wits & Wagers hits the XBL Arcade This Wednesday

Wits & Wagers the trivia game that earned the Editor’s Choice award from Xbox magazine is heading to the XBL Arcade this Wednesday. The game will support the big red button controller from Scene it and the live vision camera. Gamers can play locally or on live and you don’t need to always know the answer to win. Wits & Wagers will play just like the board version. Sounds pretty cool and should be interesting. The cost of the game will be 800 Microsoft points and is rated E for everyone.

Need for Speed ProStreet’s Energizer Lithium Race Day Event May 2-4

I know most gamers are deep into another game but I wanted to pass the word on. EA is hosting another Race day for Need for Speed fans. The Energizer Lithium race day event is this weekend May 2nd through the 4th. The event is open to both the Xbox 360 and PS3 gamers. Click here for more details and how to get in on the event.

NFL Legend Brett Favre Named Cover Athlete for Madden NFL 09

This year Madden fans are waiting for the Twentieth Anniversary Edition. It’s hard to believe the franchise started back in 1989. Today EA announced news about Madden NFL 09 first item was that Brett Favre would be on the cover. It was also announced gamers can expect 80+ new features one of the biggest is the new broadcast presentation by Cris Collinsworth and Tom Hammond which means the EA radio network is a thing of the past.

It also seems EA listened to the fans of the series with a ton of new enhanced graphics and online league with complete stat tracking. Another new addition is the virtual training tutorial that sounds very cool. It’s too early to tell but I remember when Peter Moore President of EA Sports said last year “If gamers think Madden 08 looks great wait until next year” I guess this August we will see what else the team has added to the game.

Rock Band: Full Album DLC Screaming for Vengeance Hits XBL Marketplace

While it may not be the first album we expected today Rock Band has its first full album download. Screaming for Vengeance by Judas Priest hit the marketplace today and is available as a full album download for 1200 Microsoft points or 160 MS points per track. You may notice on the Xbox dashboard it say’s 10 songs this is a typo. Here is the list of tracks and they are performed by the group and not cover versions.
