For those who pre-ordered Valve’s Left 4 Dead 2 the Demo went live on the XBL Marketplace yesterday. The PC demo hit today so start downloading and take a look at the upcoming sequel. I got a chance to play the Xbox 360 version and was surprised at the changes and the look of the game. Valve really made some great changes to make it a bit more realistic and less hand-holding while playing. Please remember this is for those who pre-ordered only Gold XBL members will have a chance to play the demo in early November.

I get to see a lot of the newest electronics to hit the market during trade shows and through other contacts. Over the years I have seen these eye glasses or units that promise great things but wind up either giving me a massive headache or just being lame. We had a topic hit out on the forums several months back about the Headplay “PCS” system and, of course, I wanted to voice my thoughts. After years of experiencing sales reps, PR guys and show girls forcing strange looking things over my head and say watch and you’ll be amazed, I always ended up taking the darn thing off my head or eyes then after adjusting to the real life surroundings and getting mad that I even agreed to try it. Of course having that “gadget freak” in me I would try the next thing to show up and the cycle continued.
I have seen the demo videos of the Headplay “PCS” and the ads on the demo discs that come with OXM magazine. I also read very positive things in the magazines. I simply was not impressed with the whole “PCS” systems in the past. For years they have been trying to perfect it or at least get it to work as promised. Funny thing happened then after the topic was up on the forums. I happened to be contacted by Headplay. They even joined our forums to read the comments and they wanted to talk about a review of their product. I spoke with the person and while polite and seemed very cool, I still told him I would need time with the unit and I would be honest with the review. He agreed saying “we want to let people like you who have used other systems in the past to see why we are proud of our unit”. So after a lengthy period of time with Headplay’s Personal Cinema System, I am ready to tell you how it stacks up. Read the full review and you may be surprised at what I have to say. Read more…
It’s been a hectic time with the holiday activities, food and the games time flies. I have yet another chance for something pretty cool. EA and EA Phenomic just kicked their new PC RTS card game BattleForge into the Beta stage and gave me a few beta keys to give away. How do you snag one of these you may ask? First unlike most of the other token giveaways you need to be a registered member on our forums. Then simply go to the PC section and find the BattleForge Beta Thread and follow the instructions. Remember asking for one through our comment section won’t help I won’t respond and this is a cool new RTS game. Check out our forums and I may be sending you a token and the URL to download the game. Watch for more news on BattleForge as it gets closer to retail release.

Last week I posted that the Spore Creature Creator hit stores and since then there have been over 1 million creatures created and shared. It shows that gamers have a strong interest in the upcoming PC title Spore so EA and Maxis have announced a special edition loaded with free stuff and extras. Spore Galactic Edition will feature a free DVD teaching and showing secrets of the Spore Universe. A second DVD How to build a better being that aired on National Geographic Channel and a 100 page book. Along with a cool fold out poster and behind the scene footage from the developers all packed in a special box set.

I posted earlier this week how you could get a free trial version of the Spore Creature Creator. The trial and full version only has about 25 percent of what the full game Spore will offer when it hits later this year. In the first 24 hours of release more than 250,000 creatures have been created. There is a feature that gamers can upload their creations on the popular YouTube site. YouTube reported that uploads are being received every 2 seconds of the day. Pretty impressive numbers and shows that the long awaited title Spore should do very well when it ships in the fall. If you want to download the free trial version click here and follow the instructions.
In case you’re interested and are still counting the days until Spore is released. EA is offering a free trail version of their Spore Creature Creator for MAC and PC owners. The trail version is available starting today and will give gamers an idea of the creatures you can create. The full version is in stores today so give it a try and then go out and get your copy. I am waiting for Spore to hit myself but this is very cool. You can download your free trial version by clicking here.

News of this started to surface over the weekend. It seems Vivendi Interactive and Activision has sealed a deal which will make them a huge contender in the video game market. The deal will now have the two campanies using the name Activision Blizzard. While merges are nothing new this one came completely as a surprise and there was no word or clue of it before the weekend news hit. One thing that is the most interesting is Vivendi will have 52 percent of the shares. The merger of the two independent publishers will certainly help Vivendi but how will this help Activision who already have a great name and a growing franchise list? We have seen stranger things happen but I am sure there will be more news to follow on this newly formed merger.
For PC gamers waiting on Unreal Tournament 3 the wait is almost over as Midway and Epic sent word the game has shipped to retail stores today. It’s been a huge release week for console gamers and for PC gamers as well. Crysis and Kane & Lynch: Dead Men are both in stores and are getting great reviews. I played the single player demo of Crysis and it really lives up to the press the game has been receiving. Also new this week is the crime drama Kane & Lynch: Dead Men featuring achievements for Xbox Live gold members and an interesting story line. You may need to tweak or upgrade your PC for Crysis but it man it looks amazing. Check out both this week as these are hot titles for the PC.
