XBS Podcast – XBS Interviews Bang Camaro

December 18th, 2007 Gronar 3 comments

That’s right folks; the XBS crew interviews some of the guys appearing both in Guitar Hero II and Rock Band, some of the bad boys from Bang Camaro. Being a band with around 20 members it was a bit difficult, but Jason, Rich and myself got together with Bryn Bennet and Alex Necochea, co founders of the band and lead guitarists along with Rich Hoss lead singer and manager.

Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground Xbox 360 Review

November 18th, 2007 Gronar 1 comment

Yes, once again it’s that time of the year for Neversoft to bring us another installment of the perennial skateboarding game that seemed to start a millennium ago. Actually it did, back in 1999 to be exact, but I digress. Some folks would say the genre is getting a little stale, but Neversoft offers a few new additions to try to keep the gameplay fresh for those who can’t get enough of this genre.

The last version introduced us to the “nail the trick” system which makes its way back along with the new “nail the grab” and “nail the manual” modes. Most of us have played these games to death over the years, after all they are fun. But has the Tony Hawk series run its course with new games like EA’s skate entering the arena, with an all new trick system? Check out the full review, and hear what we have to say. Read more…

Rich, Jason and I recently had a chance to interview Drowning Pool’s lead singer Ryan McCombs.  We talked about the long road since the death of Dave Williams, the band’s involvement with supporting our troops overseas, video games he and the crew play, the band’s music in gaming/TV, and their teaming up with the IAVA (Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America) to bring the Lane Evans Veterans Health and Benefits Improvement Act of 2007 to congress.

Beautiful Katamari Xbox 360 Review

November 3rd, 2007 Gronar 2 comments

Beautiful Katamari is a truly quirky Japanese game.  I’ve never played any of the originals, so when it was announced for the 360 I thought I would give it a try.  Those familiar with the previous installments know what is going on, but for those that don’t let’s give a brief synopsis.  The King of All the Cosmos was out playing tennis with the Queen and Prince, when one of his might serves poked a hole in the time-space continuum.  This black hole began to devour everything in its path, and the King sent the Prince out to Earth to, um, roll up huge Katamari’s in order to plug this hole and return order to the cosmos.

BioShock Xbox 360 Review – ala Gronar Style

August 29th, 2007 Gronar 2 comments

Lots of people out there think of the Xbox 360 as a shooter console. The truth is there are many shooters on the console, but it does have a plethora of other games available. When I first read about Bioshock over a year ago, I really thought it fell into that category of just another shooter. But it did present a totally different sort of style and atmosphere, being set in the underwater city of Rapture. Andrew Ryan, a man fed up with the bureaucracy of the governments of the United States, Soviet Union, and the Vatican decided to build this utopia as a place for science, industry, and the arts to blossom without the restrictions of the previously mentioned establishments. So Rapture was built under the seas to give these forward thinkers a haven to practice their arts. It was Nirvana, but something went terribly wrong.
