Jasper model have lowest chance of RROD. If your console is made in 2009 it should have the Jasper chip. You can find for sure by checking the back and look for 12.1a its a jasper unit. For more info you can look at http://blogs.mercurynews.com/aei/2007/10…
If you looking to buy a console I personally recommended the ps3 which is around teh same price because of three reason: Less failure rate, free online gaming, and more exclusives comming for it
Newer models should be less likely to receive the Red Ring of Death. However, all 360s are susceptible to it.
You can do a few things to reduce the possibilty of RROD.
1) Get a fan for your 360. The built-in fans don’t work that well, and the units have a tendency to overheat. The under-unit cooling fan models work well.
2) Make sure your Xbox 360 is in a well-ventilated/open area.
3) If you’re going to play marathon sessions, either download the games onto the 360 hard drive (you can find a tutorial in Xbox Live on how to do this) or take breaks where you turn the unit off after a few hours. Games loading from the hard drive take up less processing power and run cooler. It’ll also speed up load times.
I heard the latest jasper model. There is a serial number on the back of the 360 on the barcode. If you do a search on yahoo, you can find what the code is for the different models, so you end up buying the jasper rather than the older falcon models. I bought a 360 not knowing this and ended up with a falcon, but it’s going strong so the thumb of rule is buy the newest model.
Good luck.
I have to say just the elite in general, when they first released it it was 500 bucks so I think they put a little more love into putting it together.
Hah that dumbass “happyman4″ said thumb of rule, it’s rule of thumb idiot!
You don’t have to get an Elite to make sure you have the lowest chance of getting RRoD – In the first Xbox 360 that came out had some problems which all lead up to getting the RRoD, people have found ways to fix it them selves but if you want to get a console that will have a low chance of getting RRoD – Purchase a ‘09′ model Xbox 360 or an ‘08′ model.
The best ‘09′ model to buy is the limited edition ‘Red’ Xbox 360 Elite
Apparently it has new technology in it to give better proformance
I bought one of these a month ago its awesome
i hear the elite is a bit thicker for better airflow and is manufatured a bit slower to keep mistakes to a minumum (as well as the almost identical new arkade but why would you want an arcade?) but with the ps3 slim coming out at a lower price and the nintendo wii only being about 199$ why would you want a 360 unless your replaceing one (well if your replaceing a premium i guess an arcade would work thats what i did) all of the xbox 360 line has a high failure rate but they all have 3 year covrage of the rrod errors and really… in 3 years dont cha think they will have made something else?
No specific model. The new Xbox 360’s have the “Jasper chip” which make it almost RRoD prone. I have a falcon 360, and it’s been going strong since ‘07. You might as well get the Elite since it got a price drop, or if your lucky, get the Pro before it’s discontinued.
