In other words, will I be able to use the internet on my laptop using the Xbox 360 wireless network adapter?

To keep things simple, no.
yes it should because microsoft made the network adaptor and they also make computers/laptops and it also has a usb port/connection
y not give it a go!!
no i doesn’t work unless you pay for the program for your laptop (not cheap about $100) would be cheaper to buy a wireless card
U probably need a wireless modem
