What Are Some Tips On Keeping Your Xbox 360 Cool And Not Overheating?
I really want to buy a xbox to chill out with my rl friends on live. I’ve heard a whole bunch of overheating problems with the xbox 360’s. Where should I put my xbox 360 on the carpet? on a table? Where?

as long as there is nothing blocking the sides you’ll be fine, the 360 is a good console it doesn’t overheat unless you block all of the vents, i just put mine on the carpet
Keep it in a open space and not on carpet it should be fine the over heating is not much of a problem any more with the new crop of systems
well dont plug up the vents (thats what i did at first by putting it on a book shelf bad idea) its also nice to have a fan near it for thos long hours of gameing
If you don't have a table or some kind of entertainment area to set it on, Us some books to elevate it off the ground, you want to keep those funny little holes you see on both sides, open and not blocked so it can breath.
What I do is take about 4 game cases and place them under my 360 in the middle. It keeps my system off the glass and allows air to flow underneath. Find your self a cooler attachment that you can put on the back of the system, it draws some of that Hot air out. You can find these coolers at Gamestop or any Box retailer.
NEVER set it on the carpet or put it in an enclosure that's really confined, The 360 needs at least 6 inches around it to breath and keep from overheating.
NOW I have done all these things in the past and my system still Red Ringed 2 times a year every year since launch. BUT these newer systems have a cooler running chip in them so if you follow my advice , you should have little to no problems with overheating.
dont play it all the time then it wont overheat
dont play it 2 much and buy the inter cooler or put ur fan next 2 it
Dont buy a intercooler fan they’re crap. turn it off if its hot.
The problems you are hearing about are the problems with the "Red Ring of Death." This is an internal hardware failure problem that has somewhat to do with overheating but there is nothing you can do to avoid it, it's a manufactoring problem. I had my first xbox wide open on the very top shelf of my entertainment center, elevated under a few DVDs and it still got the red ring.
The one MS gave me for free to replace it has been in a small cubby in my new entertainment center. It has gotten VERY hot in there when I forgot to open the door, and before I put in a fan. The Xbox gives a different error code when it has overheated, and then it turns off. The over heat error is just 1/4 of a red ring. Reseting the power after it cools can clear it and it turns on just fine.
Bottomline, don't overhaul your entire entertainment center just to keep your Xbox working. If it's a bad console it will get the ring no matter what.
