How Can I Keep My Xbox 360 In Good Shape?
How can I keep my Xbox 360 in good shape? I just bought it 2 weeks ago and I really want to keep good care of it. So can anyone give me some advice to keep my Xbox 360 in good shape?
I’ve also noticed there is always hair and dust on top of my Xbox 360 somtimes and when I wipe it off with my hand it ussualy grows back. Is it because my Xbox 360 is sitting on the carpet? Can somone also tell me how to prevent dust getting into the Xbox 360 so it won’t get damaged, and also a few other tips to keep my Xbox 360 in good shape?
Thank you!

Don’t let your 360 sit on the carpet. It will ruin that way. Sit it on a hard, flat surface. Also, do not move the 360 while it is on, because that can lead to the Red Ring of Death or possible disc scratches.
Hello Matt Jo,
My husband and I have had our 360 for about two years, and here are some of the things we have found to help.
Yes the 360 is made to stand vertical, but we prefer to have it horizontal, as the disks are less likely to skip, and scratch. If you have kids or pets, as hard as it is, try to have them in another room while jumping around. It saves on the laser.
Xbox does have what they call an inter cooler, that connects to the back of the unit, then your cords plug into the cooler, and when you play, it draws the air through the vents, and out the back. It is a little noisy and can burn up quick. So we have found that a normal fan which we use to cool off with, directed at the 360 while you play, keeps it just as cool.
To protect the outside of the unit, they have what are called Skins, they are thick stickers for the unit and paddles, but they do not go on the easyest, you may need to cut to fit, especially the paddles.
We use a dish towel to cover the unit when not in use, as we found that no matter where you have it; it is a magnet for dust.
If you think of anything else just post it and we will check back.
Keep it clean do not let it sit on a carpet as it will overheat that way on long playing times. If you are gonna use an inter cooler verify that it is the new model that has power on its own since the first edition had a tendency to damage the gpu. And pray lol…
Jk aside the newer models have a new chipset and it is supposedly less likely to get RROD or the E74. The older models where the ones that had the biggest problems I’m on my third 360 now but this is the new one so I’m hoping it keeps on living.
I am now on my 5th Xbox 360 and heres a few tips:
1) never leave it on the carpet as this will cause dust and other foriegn objects to be sucked off your floor and right into your 360!
2) keep it horizontal and on a smooth flat surface as this gives it the maximum amout of air thrue its vents(this also means keep it out of armoires as this will not give it adequate ventilation).
3) discontinue use immediately if witness screen abnormalities as this is the GPU overheating.
4) keep it cool, as mentioned early a standing fan pointed at it is the best way to keep it from over-heating.
5) keep it cover when not in use, clean lint free towels work best.
6) keep useage to a mimimum in high temperature enviornments.
Fallow these steps and your 360 should see many days!
