One of the worst-kept tech secrets of recent times has finally been outed, as photos and details of Sony’s new PSP have been leaked online. Images and video of the PSP Go apparently turned up in the latest edition of Sony’s Qore online magazine and were posted to the general web by Gaming Console Network . No UMD drive So far, it seems like most of the rumours were accurate – the PSP Go ditches the UMD drive in favour of 16GB of flash memory for storing games and there’s a new Bluetooth radio, although it’s not clear if the Wi-Fi link has been retained.

CNETNate writes “It’s a global first for Microsoft, and massive news for Xbox owners. Redmond and the largest pay TV service in the UK — Sky, owned in part by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp — has tied a deal that brings simulcast TV, sports, entertainment shows, pay-per-view movies and back catalogue television to the Xbox 360. It’s an entirely streamed service, offering no download-to-own content, and partly rivals the BBC iPlayer, which is available on UK PlayStation consoles and the Nintendo Wii. The service will go live later in the year at no cost to existing subscribers, and screenshots show it fits in seamlessly with the Xbox Live interface.” Read more of this story at Slashdot.

So in the Autumn you will be able to use the Sky Player through your Xbox 360 – with the tie up between one of Britain’s biggest broadcasters and the might of Microsoft already looking damn impressive. Of course, the version that was being shown off to the press was still an early version of the Xbox Sky Player, but it’s already showcasing much of the functionality. TechRadar has had plenty of time to play around with the Xbox Sky Player in its foetal stage, and we have to confess to being entirely impressed by what we have seen. A note of warning; the demonstration we saw used pre-loaded clips of content rather than the streaming medium that would be arriving through your broadband in the final version, so judging the picture quality on what we have seen would be premature.

Microsoft and Sky have announced a partnership to bring live streaming channels and on demand television to the Xbox 360 this autumn – in what could prove to be a pivotal moment in UK broadcasting. The Sky Player is currently providing an online service for a relatively small audience, but by porting it to the Xbox it not only opens the service out to a massive new audience, but also brings the prospect of true on demand from Sky to the television, rather than the computer screen. Should the potential pitfalls around streaming decent quality pictures down internet connections that are suitable for TV screens be avoided, then Sky and Microsoft’s tie-up could be a boost for both Sky’s premium content and Microsoft’s entire Xbox platform.

Those thinking that Nintendo would be bringing a game-changing Gameboy phone to E3 will be sadly disappointed as the Nintendo US CEO ruled out such a development. “Telephony is not in our wheelhouse,” Reggie Fils-Aime said. “It’s not something I anticipate us getting into.” Previous statements from Nintendo execs have hinted that the company was thinking of making a phone, but only if it could avoid making customers pay a monthly subscription.

The PC ships with a three-year warranty and, as well as packing in some serious power and hard drive capacity under the hood, also looks pretty smart with it. “Music lovers can take advantage of its 1000 GB S-ATA hard drive which offers space for over 200,000 tracks,” reads Aldi’s press release, “and if you fancy getting snap happy there is plenty of space for all your pictures.” Medion’s latest runs Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Bit – though of course if you are like us you’ll immediately upgrade to Windows 7 the second you get it home! Aldi’s claiming the PC is designed for families, students, movie-buffs (with a Blu-ray drive included) and even gamers – packing in and NVIDIA GeForce GT 230 DirectX 10 graphics card “for fantastic visual clarity with games and multimedia applications.”
