Today Activision officially confirmed Guitar Hero: World Tour “Guitar Hero 4” and that the game will be like Rock Band. The new game will feature a microphone, a newly designed guitar and a drum set. It was also confirmed the game will allow up to 8 gamers challenge each other online and some huge bands on board.

While this sounds great Activision, RedOctane and NeverSoft left out important details. A newly designed guitar does that mean gamers that already own a guitar from the GH series will have to buy another one? The drum set has cymbals so it sounds like a bundled set is in the works. No price was mentioned or a release date. The news really comes to no surprise after the rave reviews and success of Rock Band. I just wonder if gamers are really willing to fork over for all new equipment to play it. It will be out for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii it will also be the first game to support downloadable content from the Wii store. I expect at E3 they will release pricing and a release date for the new instruments and bundles.
