No Price Drop for the Xbox 360: E3 07 News
Last week Sony dropped the price of the PS3 while many predicted the move; it was expected to be announced at E3 this year. Sony is in last place so while early the news was not shocking. Rumors of an Xbox 360 price drop where already running around the industry and fans alike. Yesterday MS answered and shot the rumors down in a surprising statement. Read on to hear their response to a price drop.
“We have no desire, no need, to react to anything the competition has done,†Shane Kim, head of Microsoft Games Studios, said in an interview. “We feel really great about the Xbox 360 momentum right now. Customers are voting with their wallets, it’s not just about console units. We feel great about how we’re doing.â€
I have to be honest here and say the statement shocked and disappointed me. The Wii is kicking butt and everyone knows that the titles are not the main reason for their top spot. I also understand that MS may just be focused on keeping ahead of Sony but how can they continue the momentum without a price drop?
Shane Kim stated that customers are “voting with their wallets” and perhaps he is onto something here. Nintendo is in first place in the console wars and price has to be the reason. Perhaps this is more of a “shell game†and MS is waiting after E3 and the real start of the Christmas season to announce a drop? The casual gamer out there needs a little push to be swayed to buy an Xbox 360 plain and simple. Stay tuned it looks like the statement and confidence of MR. Kim maybe the biggest story to come out of E3 this year!

Being a big XBOX fan, I’ve been waiting for the price drop – for about 8 months now. But then along comes the Wii, and wow – it is way cool. I can buy a Wii for half the price – which I will do now. I’ve been very patient waiting for the price cut. I continue to play my original XBOX, but MS just waited too long. The E3 was MS last chance to win my business. Now that the Wii is becoming more available and no price cut is coming, I’m going with Wii.
Oh, and the fact that MS took a billion dollar charge because they didn’t make a quality product to begin with, makes me feel pretty good about my choice now.
I feel depressed now to see there will be no price drop. I was so excited to hear about a price drop because I could push my plans of getting one closer. I still may not be able to get it because my parents say it is too expensive so I was hoping this price drop would change their minds but I will still push hard to get a 360
