Splinter Cell Double Agent Xbox 360 Preview
Game developer Ubisoft is bringing everyone’s favorite spy to the next generation with their new Xbox 360 title Splinter Cell: Double Agent. This one puts players back in the shoes of Sam Fisher as he embarks on the most dangerous mission of his life. His objective is to infiltrate a deadly terrorist organization and bring it down from the inside. In order to do this Sam will have to turn himself into a criminal and try to earn the trust of the terrorists in order to infiltrate their group and learn their plans.
This new role that Fisher has undertaken adds a whole new dynamic to the experience of the game. Players will have to have to think fast and move even faster during their missions because they will have two sets of objectives given to them. One set of objectives will be given to them by the terrorists while the other is given to them by their Third Echelon controllers. You won’t always have time to complete all of these objectives so you will have to weigh your decisions carefully. Which objectives are most important to your ultimate goal and which ones can be sacrificed? If you don’t complete enough NSA objectives you will not be able to complete the assignment but if you skip too many terrorist goals it might spell doom for Agent Fisher.
Gamers will also have to be careful not to blow their cover through the course of this title. There will be missions where Sam will be facing off against old allies who are out for his blood now that he appears to have switched sides. While they will have all of the latest technology the U.S. government has to offer, Sam is not so fortunate in the new identity he has undertaken. It will be the player’s choice to either eliminate Fisher’s old friends for the good of the mission or save their lives by killing a few of the terrorists instead. Be careful though, if you rack up too large of a body count, you might expose Sam’s true objectives to his new masters and fail the mission. The actions that gamers undertake during these situations will have dramatic effects on the final outcome of the game.
The ground breaking multiplayer from previous titles in the Splinter Cell series is also returning in all of its next gen glory. Players can look forward to an improved version of Spy vs. Mercenary for their cat and mouse games. The developer has included a new teamwork training simulator to help new players get accustomed to this game type and learn the necessary skills to become a master infiltrator. The mercenaries will have some new gadgets available to them such as a proximity sensor to aid them their hunt for the stealthy opponents.
The popular cooperative mode will also be returning to let friends work together to break into enemy installations and get back out of them undetected.

Sam Fisher has seen a lot of action in his time and has been through some extremely intense situations, but Ubisoft is taking him and gamers to a whole new level with this title. I don’t think there are many people in the world who could even imagine what kind of stress a double agent has to endure but this title might be able to give us all some idea of what its like. Fisher is being transformed from an acclaimed hero to public enemy number one and that should create a very interesting story line for us to play through. This one also looks like it will be a much darker and harsh world to play through than previous titles. All of the choices that can be made will not be as cut and dry as players are used to.
It also looks like this title will be mixing a bit more action into a series that has focused on stealth and secrecy in its previous titles. This should help add a fresh element of gameplay to the tried and true method that we’ve seen so far. Die hard fans of the stealth genre might not be thrilled with this idea but it should help attract some more players to the series. One feature that has perked the interest of a lot of gamers is the new additions to the spy vs. merc adversarial mode. This new take on online playing was instant success with Xbox Live players in the previous title and everyone wants to see what surprises the developer has come up with for this new iteration of it. Overall, I don’t think that Double Agent is a title that any Xbox 360 owner is going to want to miss regardless of if you want to play the campaign or if you’re just dying to take it online.
