Project Gotham Racing 3 Xbox 360 Racing Game Preview
Let’s take a look at Bizarre Creation’s upcoming Xbox 360 title Project Gotham Racing 3. This new addition to the series will follow in the footsteps of its predecessor in terms of gameplay that fans love so much. However the developer is adding some improvements to the previous racing system while including some new elements as well.
The kudos system from previous versions will still be a main part of this game. For those unfamiliar with this I’ll explain a little. The kudos system means that the race isn’t about speed alone. Players must also perform some bold maneuvers during the race to impress the crowd. The more insane moves a driver pulls off the more points he will earn. These trick moves can range from simply drafting another car to turning a 360 in the middle of the track. Another crowd pleaser will be to bounce the car up on two wheels as you drive down the track.
Unlike the previous version of this series players will be able to use any vehicle in their garage for a race. This gives gamers a whole new level of freedom because they won’t be forced to use a pre-selected car for a certain race. Speaking of the vehicles there will be allot of them to choose from. There will be over 80 cars for players to burn rubber with in PGR3. Extreme attention has been paid to each car to make them exact replicas of their real world models. This applies to the interior and exterior of every car. In addition each track on this game is an actual race circuit location.
The developer is taking full advantage of the graphical power of the Xbox 360. The lighting effects and reflections on the cars are amazing. In addition the tracks are going to be surrounded by very life like crowds. This won’t be your usual picture of a crowd on the side of the track either. Instead the crowds will consist of hundreds of individual people all the way around the track.
The Xbox Live Service will be a major part of this title. The stat tracking and leader boards of this one should provide for some fierce multiplayer competition. A new addition to the online mode will be the GothamTV feature. This allows players to watch the races rather than compete in them. Using this feature will allow players to decide how involved they are in the online community. You can work your way through the ranks or kick back and relax while watching other players go at it.

- The original Kudos challenge. Speed alone will not win this race. PGR 3 rewards the best drivers for their ability to execute bold moves as they race. Powersliding, pulling off a 360, getting airtime, staying on the race line, drafting and getting up on two wheels will earn gamers Kudos points for their style and skill.
- The ultimate supercar collection. Gamers can live out all their dream car fantasies as they own more cool cars than they ever thought possible. Players can take the wheel of more than 80 authentically modeled and licensed supercars from manufacturers such as Ferrari, Dodge and Lamborghini. With fully modeled interiors, functioning dashboards and individually recorded engine roars, life truly begins at 170.
- A world of living, breathing cities. PGR 3 transports gamers to intricately modeled popular locations, including New York , Tokyo and multiple other cities. The tracks are brought to life and populated by thousands of people in the crowds – all motion-captured – making PGR 3 a racing game that really has to be seen to be believed.
- GothamTV takes gamers online with Xbox Live. PGR 3 exploits next-generation worldwide connectivity to let drivers show off in front of a global online audience. With GothamTV, gamers can watch any player in the world on live news feeds, get live ticker-tape information when friends break records, and compete with anyone, anywhere, anytime. Drivers can choose to casually involve themselves in the online side of GothamTV or set out to climb the ranks and conquer the entire institution of worldwide PGR 3 racers.
- Customized gameplay. Gamers have asked to race their own way, and now they can. No longer are gamers forced to race cars they don’t want or battle through the game just to see a city they want; how gamers play the game, and in which car, is now in their hands. And if they want to show their friends, they can go online and challenge them.
- Real life in the living room. Gamers can take their Xbox 360, PGR 3, a television with HDTV and a Dolby 5.1 setup, plug it in and take it away. With individually recorded engine sounds, ambient recordings at every real-life location and GothamTV’s unique user interface, PGR 3 gamers are stepping into a whole new reality.

I’m not exactly a hard core race fan but I do enjoy some high speed action from time to time. Judging by the screen shots available for this one the developer is not overlooking any details . The cars are beautiful to look at and the smoke effects from burnouts are amazing. However the graphics are not the only thing about this game that has me excited. The kudos system should add a whole new level of challenge to racing. The crazy moves players will have to perform to win should provide for a very intense experience either online or offline.
Another part of this game that has my attention is the GothamTV feature. I think it will be very useful to the less experienced drivers on this game. It will let them observe the more experienced drivers and see what they do different on each track. I realize that some gamers will probably never use this feature but it’s a nice touch to the multiplayer options in my opinion. Overall I think this one will be a must have title for anyone that picks up the 360 this fall.
