Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter Xbox 360 PreviewTom Clancy games have flooded the Xbox console over the years with its clever
single player gaming and entrancing Xbox Live online multiplayer experience, with
fantastic massive maps and jaw dropping landscapes. Intensely waiting for your opponent to pop out from around a bush to only pop them in the head quickly and sharply before you are spotted by their backup units has never lost its appeal over the years.  Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter
is all about well thought out tactics and the requirement to have the patience of a saint.  No
running in like a nutter, otherwise you will find yourself becoming a tasty
snack for the vultures as your corpse rots slowly after being slaughtered by
enemy fire… Yum.

Although the single player campaigns were entertaining, it was always the
online experience through Xbox Live that became the games ‘shock and awe‘ marvel, creating the right
atmosphere and intense situations that only Ghost Recon has portrayed
in such magnificence.  Now with the next generation console from Microsoft,
the Xbox 360 has Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter in its sights, but will the game hit the target
for the audience or shoot off into obscurity?

E3 2005 has been the biggest event of its type I can recall for many years now, with
all the announcements for the next generation consoles, but it was games like
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter for the sleek
newly unveiled Xbox 360 that helped catch the attention of the gaming community.  The high resolution videos that have been appearing
around the internet that included this very title, only helped fuel the
excitement for what’s to come.  Graphically the details are very next
generation as you would expect, taking the success of the Xbox hardware and
moulding it into a power house for the Xbox 360 to create possibly the most
complete gaming experience yet.

With great interaction with your fellow
soldiers, explosions that look so sweet and not forgetting the look and feel of
an actual future warfare moment captured in gaming glory.  OK so in the
video the person controlling one of the characters did not seem to know how to
shoot at the enemies and instead made a very nice selection of bullet holes in the
wall, however taking everything into account you can’t help but
smile when you see the visual and audio delights that are in store for us.
The PC and Xbox 360 will be using 2 different game engines while the Xbox and
PS2 version will use the same engine as the platforms are more similar.

With locations like Iraq, Vietnam and the desert used to death (excuse the
pun
) on other titles, it is certainly refreshing to see Mexico used in this
latest Ghost Recon game.  With urban warfare now at its core, environments
are both aimed at close combat and open areas welcoming the elements of warfare
from all angles.  There will be 12 single player missions with an average
of 6 sub missions within each which should keep anyone busy as they suggest at
least 20 hours of game time will be spent conquering the new levels.

There
will also be an additional 7-15 multiplayer levels available with the
possibility of downloadable content as well.  Realism is something that is
being pushed hard with the next generation hardware of Xbox 360 and the
inclusion of calling in your Apache Air Strike and using intelligence from
unmanned drones will all add to the fun.  Also, cross communication with
your battle hardened team will be a vital component of how successful you are in
reaching and completing your mission goals.

What's This Game All About Anyhow? from the developer.

Mexico D.F. (Districto Federal), Mexico: The Ghosts have been ordered to
participate in a Joint Operation designed to capture Mexican military officials
engaged in illegal technology sales to Columbian rebels.  The US President
has joined the Canadian Prime Minister and the Mexican President in Mexico City
to sign NAJSA (the North American Joint Security Agreement), a new policy
designed to share the policing responsibilities along the borders of these three
countries and control illegal immigration and the movement of drugs and
terrorists in the hemisphere.  As a symbolic gesture a number of US
military weapons and vehicles have been sold to the Mexican Government and are
now situated at the Mexican Whitehouse – Chapultepec castle.

During the public signing of the document the three leaders are attacked by
Mexican soldiers opposed to what they consider an unreasonable concentration of
military power in civilian hands (and even worse, in politicians’ hands).
The Ghosts, as the only US Special Forces on the ground, are ordered to meet up
with Secret Service agents protecting the US President and ensure his safety
until he is extracted. While the US president is on route to the Airport, the
Ghosts secure the Mexican president. Thanks to the Ghosts actions, the Mexican
President will “Green light” US intervention on Mexican soil in order to
re-establish Democracy.  Unfortunately, the US president never reached the
Airport and is now in enemy hands. The Ghosts must now hunt down his captors in
a war-torn Mexico City and fight off a well-equipped Mexican force.

XBS Commentary - Our Thoughts

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter for the Xbox 360 is looking to be the best looking
warfare game of all time and if the hype lives up to its claims, we are in for
an absolute stunner of a game.  There is no doubt that Microsoft is trying
to have a line up of initial titles that beats any previous console launch and
having Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter right up there at the beginning of the Xbox
360’s lifetime has to be a bonus to fans of the genre.

Xbox Live
subscription is a must if you really want to push the game to its full
potential, otherwise you’ll miss so much of what’s available with this type of title. So if you have already pre-ordered your Xbox 360, make sure this game
is on your list so you don’t miss out on what all your other friends will be
playing, without a doubt.
