Splinter Cell Makes Its Mark Beyond Video Games
London, UNITED KINGDOM – January 7, 2005 – Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest
video game publishers, is pleased to announce that the book Tom Clancy’s Splinter
Cell has hit the New York Times’ Top 10 bestseller list for paperback fiction.
The novel, which was just published this past December, is the first of a series
inspired by Ubisoft’s video game franchise Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell®.
The book’s success reinforces the impact and value of the Tom Clancy’s Splinter
Cell® brand both within and outside of the video game industry, an asset
from which Ubisoft will continue to benefit in the near future.
The brand is an original creation developed by the company’s Montreal studio.
It recounts the adventures of Sam FisherTM, an operative for “Third Echelon”,
a secret branch of the American National Security Agency. The book is also ranked
8th among the Wall Street Journal bestsellers in the category “mass market
paperbacks”.
Ubisoft and a major motion picture studio located in Hollywood are currently
discussing a possible movie rights deal that would adapt the adventures of Tom
Clancy’s Splinter Cell® for the big screen.
The first two games published by Ubisoft – Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell®
and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Pandora TomorrowTM – have sold 9.7 million copies
to date. The highly anticipated third opus, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Chaos
TheoryTM, will be available this March on PS2, Xbox®, GameCubeTM and PC.
