Infinium Labs President Kevin Bachus Shares Stage With Sun(R) CEO Scott McNealy
at JavaOne Conference
Infinium Labs, Inc. has partnered with Sun(R) Microsystems to offer Java(TM)
technology-based games as part of its Phantom Gaming Service(TM), the first
end-to-end, on-demand game distribution service. Kevin Bachus, president of
Infinium Labs, joined Scott McNealy, CEO, Sun Microsystems, to announce the
relationship during today’s keynote speech at the 2004 JavaOne Conference, being
held at the Moscone Center, San Francisco, Monday – Thursday, June 28 – July
1, 2004.
“The Phantom Gaming Service model of delivering games to the home over
broadband via a receiving device dovetails with Sun’s goal to use Java technology
to allow people to play their favorite games without platform restrictions,”
Chris Melissinos, chief gaming officer, Sun Microsystems, said. “We share
Infinium’s vision of making games available over a network so they can play
anywhere, anytime.”
The Phantom Gaming Service is slated to go live Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004. The
Phantom Game Receiver will ship with the full Java 2 Standard Edition Runtime
Environment and supporting game APIs. All Java technology-based games will be
able to run on the Phantom out of the box.
“We’re committed to bringing the highest quality and the widest array
of games into the living room,” Kevin Bachus, president, Infinium Labs,
said. “With Java becoming more prevalent in the game development process,
having the Phantom support the technology is a logical stepping stone on the
path to achieving our goal of bringing gaming to the masses.”
