Microsoft’s evident approval of Ubisoft’s latest stealthy shooter was affirmed last week as the Xbox platform owner announced the first Live tournament for those rather partial to Splinter Cell’s online multiplayer debut. The inaugural tournament is open to European participants from Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, Ireland, Norway, Spain, Sweden, the UK and Switzerland, and will run between the 26th of April and the 26th of May.

A “Spy Kit” worth £2,650 is the top prize, and this generous bundle includes a Samsung finger-print activated Laptop, Samsung Camcorder with Night capture mode, a Crystal Xbox console with two controllers plus an Xbox Live Starter Kit with a copy of Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow to give to a friend. Five runners-up will also bag goodies to the value of £100, including FM radios, T-shirts and the like.

Gamers will be able to participate in the competition by taking part in any ranked game from lunchtime onwards, and scores will be recorded until the 26th when winners will be informed and congratulated. All of which sounds well worth a shot.
