EA have let-slip a few tentative details on a brand new console spin-off from the ubiquitous Sims series in the shape of the Urbz for consoles.

The Urbz is currently in development for all consoles and the GBA handheld, and will differ from the traditional Sims game model by offering players a title based entirely upon reputation and set in a city when image is everything.

Players will be able to customise their Sim and build them into the city’s biggest ‘player’, and the game will be unveiled more fully at E3 next month.

The Urbz will debut in late 2004, and will see players working their way up the employment tree. A variety of unique ‘lifestyles’ will be available for the player’s selection, and the game aims to capture the richness of every nuance via the new graphics engine.

And then there’s this: Players create their Urbz using a new character customisation engine to show off attitude and unique style, as well as signature “bling” such as tattoos and nose rings. Okaay.

“We’re taking The Sims on console franchise in a dramatic new direction. Now that Sims are in the city they are now known as Urbz, they have a bold new look and style,” enthused Executive Producer Sinjin Bain. “For the first time, players will control Urbz at every moment of gameplay, while they are on the job, earning their street rep, or exploring a city that is alive 24/7.”

Thanks to Farrego for the head up on the title. Feel free to discuss this article in our Forums!
