Xbox price cut coming in April?
The New York Post reported on Wednesday that Microsoft plans to cut the price of its flagging Xbox video game console in April in hopes of luring more buyers, retail sources said yesterday. The price drop – from $180 to $150 – likely will be matched by Sony’s popular PlayStation 2.
Microsoft’s decision may be tied to the Game Developers Conference in late March, said Schelley Olhava, an analyst with IDC. The company has used the conference to make announcements in the past. “I think $150 is a good price. It does open up a whole new demographic,”. Microsoft has shipped about 13.7 million Xbox units, but the company has said it hopes to sell nearly 16 million consoles by June. Officials from Microsoft and Sony would not comment on pricing.
