New Rainbow Six 3 Patch Released through Xbox Live
If you play Ubi’s Rainbow Six 3 frequently on your Xbox console, you may have noticed that to be
able to play you need to download a new update. If you have already done this,
you may have also noticed that this was a BIG update because of the time it
took to download. Every time we get an update or a patch most of us ask, ‘what
did I just download’? And although we don’t have the official answer to that,
we are going to give you the details that we have collected by our personal
experience and some other gamers’ out there.
The first thing we noticed is that the .50 caliber sniper rifle has been removed
from co-op play altogether. As some of you may know, this weapon has been the
issue of discussion because of its powerful attributes that some people call
‘one-shot-kills’. When we first noticed the .50 cal was not on our
list anymore we thought it had been completely blocked from the game, they can’t
remove it from the game because there’s really no way they can delete something
from your disc with a patch. But then, we noticed that if you play a versus
mode match the host gets a new toggle option where he or she can enable the
use of this rifle, or vice versa. This is a good tool indeed, as you will be
able to leave a game session if you don’t like to play with people that use
this weapon.
Confirmed by a couple of people on the RS3 official forums, on the Peaks level
(that’s the one with snow, just in case) there was a glitch where you could
get on a cart and jump off map. I have not experienced this myself
so I don’t know what a gamer would gain with that, but I’m pretty sure that
by being off map, shots would not be able to hit you. With this patch, the cart
has been moved so that players will not be able to take advantage of this glitch
again.
It seems there were also some glitches that you could use to your advantage
when leaning or peeking out of corners. Although I don’t have the details on
how these work, there are different opinions on the RS3 forums as if they were
fixed or not. The opinion of the majority of the posts I read came to a conclusion
that no fix has been implemented yet.
Unfortunately, since there’s no official word from Ubi as of what this patch
did, we can’t know for sure what else is going on. But some of the other minor
things discussed on their forums were shotguns being downgraded, a glitch on
the Carnival level about getting on the green float, removal of the ELO glitch
that allowed players to jack up their stats by cheating, and the final
concern was that it was said once that all the stats would be reset when the
patch was released.
You can still go to their main site (http://www.rainbowsix3.com)
and scroll down to see an update on January 09, 2004 saying that all stats were
to be reset with the auto-update, but they weren’t. This leaves the possibility
open to another auto-update coming, but only time will tell. Stay tuned for
more info on this patch as we receive it, we are hoping that Ubi will release
an official statement on the changes implemented with this update.
