The Hollywood Reporter has word today of a pending MechWarrior movie.

Paramount Pictures is currently in negotiations to option the property from Seattle-based Wiz Kids. Dean Devlin and his Electric Entertainment will develop a screenplay and produce the project.

Devlin produced Eight Legged Freaks last year for $30 million, calling it an experiment as he used up almost the film’s entire budget on special effects. With MechWarrior, he hopes to make a $100 million dollar movie that will look like it cost $150 million.

Calling the material “franchise ready,” Devlin wants to get the movie out within 24 months.

Jordan Weisman, creator of MechWarrior and CEO of Whiz Kids, talked a bit about the movie’s storyline, “It’s set 40 years after the MechWars have ended and introduces a group of young heroes in their late teens and early 20s that have grown up in peaceful and prosperous times.”

Gronar wants to know if there are any openings for extras! I would be honored to be the first battle mech destroyed in the opening scenes of the movie!
