AKA Acclaim brings there lateset BMX installement to you with BMX XXX, one of the most controverial games to ever grace the shelves of your local game store. The motto of the game is “keep it dirty,” and it lives up to it. From pimp’s with there ‘ho’s, to fouled mouth citizens on the street, to the strippers at the, er, the ta-ta bar, BMX XXX is not a game for the kiddies. The characters you encounter in the game may not be the type you would bring home to mama, but the hilarious things they say to you will keep you rolling on the floor with laughter.

With that in mind, the game itself is fast and fun, but not exactly one of the prettiest Xbox games you have seen. So let’s give a look at it.

Gameplay

This game has got a lot of attention for it’s mature content in the months previous to it’s release. Some folks love it, and others may hate it, but it is inevitable since the release of Grand Theft Auto 3 that there will be more and more mature games introduced to the market. The game features unlockable FMV sequences of the girls from the famous gentlemens club Scores in NYC. Finishing certain challenges in the levels such as clearing all the gaps unlocks more and more of these FMV’s. And to tell you the truth, this keeps it pretty interesting to want to get better and better at the game! Like the previous installment, Dave Mirra BMX 2, the trick system to the game is one of the most innovative of any XXXtreme sports game. There is over 2000 types of tricks that can be performed while you are cruising around in any of the 6 massive levels. The trick system, or as Acclaim refers to it, the S.I.K. trick system allows you to modify air trick, grinds, stalls, flatland, manuals and wallrides to create hundreds of new tricks. There is also 2 competition levels, where you can score additional Score’s girls videos if you get the gold medal.

There is a lot of good gameplay, especially if you are a THPS fan and just love to learn more and more tricks. The new flatland tricks that have been added are incredible to look at. Personally I love pulling off the dump truck! Score: 8.0

Control / Playability

The A button is used to accelerate, X to do tricks in combination with the left thumbstick, Y for grinds with the thumbstick, and B to throw in modifiers to your tricks such as one handers, one footers, no handers, etc. The incredible combos that you can score with the S.I.K. trick system make it a whole lot of fun. Score: 8.0

Graphics / Presentation

The graphics of the game are not another Halo, let’s start with that. There not the greatest, but there not horrible either. There is a fair amount of clipping and collision issues. Draw distance seems very decent though. The NPC’s can look blocky, but your rider is not as bad looking. Bump mapping is non-existent.

Audio

Sound is great with a soundtrack that includes Green Day and Sublime. The game also allows you to use the custom soundtrack feature, which is always a bonus with every Xbox game that supports it. The commentary from the NPC’s will have your sides splitting with laughter! Bike sounds and grinding are very realistic.

Replay Value

Well, if you don’t go for the cheat codes to unlock the FMV sequences of the Score’s girls, there is a lot of replay value for every red blooded American male out there! That alone makes you want to come back and conquer all the challenges, if you know what I mean! Score: 8.0

Overall Score

Overall Score: 7.9/10 [Not an Average]

Additional Comments

While the subject matter may be difficult for some moms out there, and the graphics are not what you are accustomed to with the Xbox, I found the game a lot of fun. Xbox has brought us a new generation of video game consoles, and now the game makers are doing the same, stepping it up a notch. With the average age of a console gamer today, adult games have arrived and are here to stay. The game is not for everyone out there, but personally I did enjoy it!
