Chase: Hollywood Stunt Driver
So you always wanted to be a Hollywood Stunt Driver huh? Well here’s your chance!
Take the role of strong, sexy, and talented Chase Corrada, a woman following
in her father’s footsteps making her way up the ranks in Hollywood’s elite group
of stunt drivers. You deliver the action in sets ranging from Post Apoctalyptic,
Gangster 1920’s, Asian City, and Spy Thriller.
With straight forward pick up and play controls get yourself ready for action
packed fun in Chase: Hollywood Stunt Driver from BAM
Entertainment. An interesting note to this titles’ background is that it is the
first title to come out of the Xbox Incubator Program, and the first
Xbox title release from South African based developer I-Imagine.
It’s all action and timing until the director yells Cut!
Ready to be the best Stunt Driver you can be? Someone hit the lights and start
rolling the tape!
This title gets to the action quick, after a brief training session
you’re ready to go. You start out in the The Untouchables, a gangster flick where,
like most of the scenes, you need to accomplish certain tasks in a given amount
of time. One relieving aspect of the game is that success at this is within reach,
unlike some of the previous ‘Stuntman type‘ games released, by allowing
you to receive credit for any of the tasks as you accomplish them, and grab the
rest on the next take. Extra appeal to the game comes in the form of a ton of
vehicles to perform your stunts, including trucks, dune-buggies, race cars, motorcycles,
and of course a three wheel Tuk-Tuk.
Some of your objectives include smashing into things like cars, telephone booths,
and other destructible objects, jumping over bridges and anything else that may
be in your way, and chasing cars and trains. Perform stunts like barrel rolls,
flips, spins and 2 wheeled driving. Jumps are made easier by an onboard nitrous
system that will give you a boost at just the right time. You’ll also need to
collect items, stay airborn or on two wheels, or maintain a certain speed for
a specified amount of time. Each new set and scene bring new challenges, keeping
the game fresh and fun.
There are three modes of gameplay; Career Mode, Challenge Mode, and Multiplayer
(4 person split screen) which gives you an option to relax if the challenges
are just too much to handle at the moment, and grab some bragging rights with
your friends. Unlocking reputation points will unlock new scenes, levels, and
vehicles. While the gameplay is not realistic, the game offers a lot of fun, and
lets face it, Hollywood stunts are not realistic. Chase has accopmlished it’s
task at delivering an action packed experience that you can pick up and play whenever
you’re looking to have a good time with a game that won’t stress you out.
While the graphics in Chase are by no means ground breaking,
and left alot to be desired from an Xbox title, it still does not take that much
away from the game, which was designed to deliver action. Utilizing the Xbox by
other means, such as Hard Drive delivered audio, and Replay Theatre, where you
can watch saved replays. All too aften people are hung up on the graphics of a
game. It’s obvious that more though went into the gameplay side of things than
the graphical side. All in all, the graphics really didn’t play a huge part in
the game, as the non-stop action carried it through.
While there are a couple of descent tunes on the soundtrack, including “Nothing On My Back” by Sum 41, you’ll most probably
want to utilize the hard drive audio to set the mood just right for your stunt-mastering
challenges. The opening FMV sequence offers a very sexy Chase Corrada. Environmental
sounds such as bustling streets, revving engines, and smashing cars are done quite
nicely, and speak to the merit of the audio team.
Many of the stunts in the game are really, well . . . cool,
and that alone will keep you occupied long after you’ve met the requirements to
beat the game. Throw in some multi player action and the day you beat the game
definately will not be the last time you play it!

Overall Score: 7.0 [Not an Average]
I honestly don’t think this title has been
reviewed fairly on some of the other sites and magazines in the Xbox community
. . . It’s a fun game that will keep you occupied while having a good time. [That
is why they call them games!] It’s a decent title that is definately better
than Stuntmanâ„¢, so all you Stuntmanâ„¢ fans out there
check it out!
