A 10-year deal gives Vivendi access to Marvel’s characters, including Spider-Man,
the Incredible Hulk, and X-Men, for massively multiplayer games.

Vivendi has announced that it has signed a deal with Marvel Enterprises for the
rights to make online games based on the 4,700 characters in the Marvel universe.
Vivendi’s first game to take advantage of the deal is planned for 2005. Vivendi
already has an agreement with Marvel to publish games based on the Incredible
Hulk movie, which is coming out next summer. . .

We believe there are only a few franchises existing today that are compelling
enough to be a leader in the massively multiplayer games market and Marvel’s universe
of superheroes is clearly one of them
,” said Ken Cron, chairman and
CEO of Vivendi Universal Games.

Vivendi and Marvel will share the revenue from the online games’ sales, subscription
fees, and in-game advertising. The deal will allow Vivendi to publish the online
games for multiple platforms, including both consoles and the PC, and in multiple
languages worldwide. No specific games or platforms where announced.
