Aggressive Inline

Aggressive Inline is an extreme roller-blading game. I know, alot of you are thinking how many more xtreme sports games can they make, but bare with me, this one might be worth a look for some folks. The game offers 4 modes (career, freeskate, timed run and multiplayer) a park editor and options. You might be thinking this is another THPS3 here, but there are some differences. The first and overall major difference is there is not a time limit in career mode or freeskate, rather a system refered to as “juice”. You have a juice meter (like the special meter in THPS3) but when you run out of juice, it is game over. In order to continue, you have to give up ALL the points you have scored in your run. This can be aggravating, especially when you have half a million points racked up!

Other than that, the action is fast and furious, and maybe a little trickier than Tony Hawk. The soundtrack is pretty decent, with the new Hoobastank hit “Crawling in the Dark” and other bands, but a little limited. But at least you can use the custom sound track options from the xbox harddrive.

Graphics / Presentation

The graphics in the game are quite impressive, maybe just a notch above THPS3. All in all though, they don’t push the Xbox any where near its limits. The buildings and landscaping in the levels all have a clean crisp look. All and all nice, but no where near Halo. Score: 7.5

Gameplay

The game play is fast and fun, but frustrating at the same time. Just in the tutorial alone, you have to bust out a 20,000 point combo trick with using nothing but manuals and cess slides. That took me a while to do, but I got it. You have the usual tricks that are a lot like the skateboarding game tricks, but visually I did not find them as impressive, seeing how your wheels are connected to your feet. I feel a skateboard that is free to leave your feet looks a whole lot more dangerous. Score: 7.0

Control / Playability

The controls are virtually identical to THPS3 with the A button allowing you to jump when tapped, or crouch for extra speed when held with a jump when you release. The B button is used for interacting with the enviroment, such as jumping waist high barriers and swinging around vertical and horizontal poles. X is for grab tricks and Y is for grinding, using the left thumbstick while doing this to change up the type of grab and grind. If you are used to Tony Hawk, you will have no problem with this. The black and white buttons are used to fakie and cess slide, that can be a little difficult to get at, my only control complaint. Score: 9.0

Audio

Like I said up above, there are some cool tunes, but not enough of them. But, this is one of the few games that let’s you use the custom soundtrack options of the mighty xbox harddrive. Score: 8.0

Replay Value

I see alot of replay value in this for a lot of folks that want to get good at all the possible tricks that can be learned and unlocked, if you are into inline skating. Personally though, I became bored with it rather quickly. Score: 6.5

Overall Score

Overall score: 8.0 (not and average)

Additional Comments

Overall I found the game fun, there are a few unlockable characters and FMV sequences, but just not on the level of Tony Hawk or Dave Mirra BMX. I guess it’s because I just don’t think having wheels attached to your feet is as balls to the wall as skateboarding or BMX. I had fun playing it for the first 2 hours, but my interest went downhill (pun intended!) after that. Some of you will love it, others hate it, but that is the way with gaming today!
