Bruce Lee: Quest of the Dragon

When I first got word that there was going to be a Bruce Lee game for the Xbox, it instantly became one of those games I was looking forward to. Now after playing it for endless hours, I have tried to find the good in the game, but was left with nothing, but a big head Bruce Lee.

Graphics / Presentation

From some of the images and movies I have seen of the real Bruce Lee there is one major thing that separates how Bruce Lee really looks and how he looks in the game. In the game Bruce Lee’s head is twice the size it needs to be. I am not sure the reason for this massive head, but whatever the reason is, I believe that Bruce Lee would have looked much better with a normal size head. With the head a side, Bruce Lee is not a very good-looking game. Bruce Lee’s enemies are rather boring, and the landscapes are down right ugly. Another problem I had with the landscapes were that they to seemed to become repetitive.

Gameplay

Bruce Lee is one of those games that you are just hoping to be a good game. When you have a hit name like Bruce Lee it is extremely difficult to create a game that is not going to be very successful. Well it really seems that Interact did everything in their power to make Bruce Lee a bad game. Bruce Lee really only has one mode, which is the single player mode. I was rather disappointed they didn’t have any multiplayer modes in the game. I would think that a multiplayer mode would have been a nice addition to Bruce Lee.

Once I got over the fact that there wasn’t a multiplayer mode, I jumped right into the single player mode where all the fun you thought you would have didn’t show up. When I first started playing Bruce Lee I noticed that the game was pretty easy to get the hang of. Really the object of the game can be seen right from the start, and that is to press as many buttons as fast as you can so you can take down all your opponents. The only problem with that is that it becomes very repetitive after only twenty minutes of Gameplay.

Really the object of the game is to run around the different areas beat a bunch of terrible enemies and then going up against the boss. It really reminds me of some of the older karate games on the NES, and the SNES, which is not a compliment. Other then the rather plain Gameplay, the moves are where Bruce Lee really falls short. There really isn’t much variety in what Bruce Lee does. He seems to do the same things over and over again, which is quite sad considering Bruce Lee could do so much more.

Control / Playability

Bruce Lee is a game that would be extremely easy if it weren’t for the Camera. This is probably the worst camera I have ever seen. It really seems like the camera is trying it’s best to work against you, and make the game much more difficult than it needed to be. Many times when your fighting you will notice that the camera doesn’t do what it should do and goes crazy. This is not something that only happens once or twice it happens quite often and really hurts the game.

Audio

There really isn’t much to listen to in Bruce Lee. The sound effects in Bruce Lee are very scarce but when played don’t sound to bad. I do wish there was more variety in the game, but for what there is it works rather well.

Replay Value

The game loses all the fun it has in less then an hour. The fighting is very repetitive so it really feels like you are doing the same thing over and over again, which really makes you want to stop playing right then.

Overall Score

Overall Score: 3 out of 10 (not an average)

Additional Comments

Bruce Lee is really a bad example of what the Xbox is capable of doing. The Gameplay is very repetitive, the graphics are dull, and the camera angle is frustrating. If you are a die hard Bruce Lee fan I would recommend renting this one, but besides that don’t bother with it.
