In a very alarming move, President of Microsoft Rick Belluzzo has resigned.

He will officially step down on May 1st, but will remain on staff to “ensure a smooth transition.” Another announcement was made along with Belluzzo’s resignation. This announcement is a planned reorganization within Microsoft that will give more power to the core divisions of Microsoft. Most interesting of these divisions is the Home & Entertainment division…

Belluzzo joined Microsoft in 1999 as group vice president, and was promoted to president and chief operating officer in 2001. In that role, Belluzzo was in charge of worldwide sales, marketing and Microsoft’s games and TV division. Rick Belluzzo is credited with numerous accomplishments, including a relaunch of MSN and playing a key role in the development of .NET and Xbox.

The effect of his resignation on the Xbox is still unclear, but the reorganization of the Home & Entertainment division may be a good step forward for the Xbox within the coming months, especially with E3 coming up late May.
